Help & FAQ

Common questions about StormSight. Can’t find what you need? See the contact options below.

Getting started

How do I set up my first monitor zone?
Go to Monitor Zones, click "Draw a polygon", click on the map to add corner points, double-click to finish, give it a name (e.g. "North OKC Territory"), and save. You will start receiving alerts when hail events intersect your zone.
How many monitor zones can I have?
PILOT plan: 1 zone. STARTER: 5 zones. TEAM: 20 zones. PRO: unlimited. See Billing.
Can my team share monitor zones?
Yes - any zone created by a TEAM or PRO plan member is shared with the whole team. Members on a CANVASSER role can view but not modify zones.

Alerts

When will I get an alert?
When a verified hail event of confidence 60+ and size 0.75 inches or larger lands within 2 km of one of your active monitor zones. Severe events (1.5+ inches) override your configured quiet hours.
What's the difference between PUSH, SMS, and EMAIL alerts?
Push notifications are instant and free (via Firebase Cloud Messaging on the StormSight mobile app). SMS goes to your phone for severe events or as a fallback. Email is sent as a daily morning digest by default; immediate for events 1.5 inches or larger.
How do I stop SMS alerts?
Reply STOP to any StormSight SMS, or toggle SMS off in Settings.
I think the alert was wrong - what do I do?
Each alert links to a full evidence trail. If you believe StormSight detected a phantom event, click the event, then "Report incorrect detection" - the OU resident meteorologist reviews these.

Confidence and accuracy

What does the confidence score mean?
It's the posterior probability (0-100) that hail of the estimated size occurred at the estimated location and time, given the evidence. 60+ is MEDIUM; 75+ is HIGH; 90+ is VERY HIGH. The algorithm is published at /methodology.
Why is the size estimate sometimes a range?
Hail size is estimated from multiple radar and ground signals. The range shows the 25th and 75th percentile of the evidence-weighted size distribution - i.e., "we think this was 1.25-1.85 inches."
Is MRMS MESH always accurate?
MESH is known to overestimate above 2 inches per NSSL literature. StormSight applies a documented bias correction. See /methodology section 5.

Canvassing

How is the canvassing list ranked?
Combination of distance from event centroid, parcel age (older roofs more vulnerable), building square footage, and the event's confidence score interpolated at the parcel location.
Can I export to AccuLynx / JobNimbus?
Yes - configure a webhook subscription pointing at your CRM and lead-created events will fire as POST requests. Or download a CSV and import manually.
Does StormSight include homeowner names?
No - owner names are excluded by default for privacy. The CSV/PDF exports include addresses, parcel keys, year built, sale dates, and assessed value.

Billing and team

How do I invite a team member?
Go to Team, click "Invite member", enter their email and role. They will receive an email with a link to accept.
What's the difference between OWNER, ADMIN, CANVASSER, and VIEWER?
OWNER manages billing and all members. ADMIN can invite members and configure integrations. CANVASSER can view events, work leads, and add notes. VIEWER is read-only.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes - go to Billing → "Manage billing" → "Cancel" in the Stripe portal. You retain access through the end of the current billing period.
